Twinklers
The Twinklers is an off-shoot from the Arizona Western College class, the Young String Ambassadors. It began in 2003 for elementary students. It is designed for the beginner string player to:
- Develop: an appreciation for quality music, basic ensemble skills, ear - training, memorization skills, a good work ethic, taking responsibility, communication skills, a strong sense of self-worth.
- Learn to: play a violin with great beauty, perform in public, follow directions, work as a strong team member.
Students must register with the permission of the instructor through AWC on a special guest pass. A parent or guardian is expected to attend class each week with their child. Twinklers must also take private lessons. The Yuma Orchestra Association has a scholarship program available to ease tuition costs for the class as well as for private lessons. The Association also helps with the cost of the uniforms and instruments.
In the past the Twinklers have been involved in trips to Phoenix to attend Suzuki Conferences.
Class is on Tuesday afternoons at Cibola High School located at 4100 West 20th Street from 4:30 – 5:15. For permission to register for the class, to request a performance, or make a donation, please call the instructor, Kathy Younker @ (928) 314 – 0735.
