The Civic Light Orchestra
The Civic Light Orchestra is currently a class that expands the intermediate player’s technique and knowledge of music. Students attending the class have a chance to learn theory, see videos about composers, famous violinists, and to play independently in an ensemble. It is an instructional orchestra that encourages its players to go on to the Civic Orchestra. Technique includes bowing, scales, proper instrument hold, and vibrato. Theory lessons include the tetrachords, circle of fifths, intervals, major and minor scales. Players participate in one or more ensembles depending on the instrumentation of the class. There is a final concert at semester’s end.
The Civic Light Orchestra rehearses on Wednesday Evenings at Cibola High School located at 4100 West 20th Street. They meet in room 704 from 6:45 to 9:15.
